What working with Miss NC taught me

In 2018, I was approached by the Executive Director of the Miss North Carolina Organization to work with their title holder. Now, I came from the northeast and my only knowledge of women in pageantry was what I had seen in movies. (Let’s face it…not always the best depiction.) What I learned was, these women are brilliant, engaging, talented, warm and very, very diverse. Each woman has taught me something. Each woman has given me opportunities to see places through her eyes. Yes, they are beautiful, but never, ever let the ‘pretty packaging’ fool you. They are attorneys, actuaries and athletes. They are the kind of women who force others to up their game and knowing them and this experience year after year has been a gift.
